| Introductions |
| The
PCI-7296 and PCI-7248 are high density
parallel digital I/O boards with 96 and 48
I/O channels. The header connectors are
fully com-patible with industry Opto-22
stand-ard. Therefore, PCI-7296/48 can fully
utilize the Opto-22 external devices that
used in ISA age. The PCI plug and play
feature makes these boards are easy
installation than any other ISA bus cards.
It is the time to get into the PCI age for
new industrial applications. |
| PCI
Bus Plug and Play |
| The
PCI-7248/96 uses PCI controller ASIC to
interface with the PCI bus. The ASIC fully
implement the PCI local bus specification
Rev 2.1. All bus relative configurations,
such as base memory address and interrupt
assignment, are automatically con-trolled by
hardware and PCI BIOS. It does not need user
interaction and pre-study for PC
configurations. This reduces the burden of
searching for conflict-free configurations.
Hence, it can save more time than using the
ISA bus cards. |
| Parallel
Digital I/O |
| The
on board circuits can emulate the industry
standard 8255 Programm-able Peripheral
Interface (PPI) chips. The PCI-7296/48
provides 4/2 PPI chips. Each PPI offers
three 8 bits ports; PA, PB, and PC. PC is
sub-divided into 2 nibble-wide (4-bit)
ports. Each digital channel has an
individual pin on the OPTO-22 connector. All
96/48 digital I/O channels can sink 24mA for
high driving capacity applications. |
| Programmable
Timer/Counter |
| PCI-7296/48
have a programmable timer counter for
generating periodic interrupts to the host
processor. The timer/counter chip is 82C54,
which includes three 16-bit counters. |
| One
counter is used as an event counter for
counting events coming from one input
channel. The another two timers are cascaded
together making a 32-bit timer, which can
control the rate of interrupt generation. |
| Dual
Internal System |
| The
PCI-7296/48 can accept dual interrupt
sources. One source is from I/O port or the
event counter, the another source is from
I/O port or the timer chip. The dual
interrupt configuration is very flexible for
any industry application. For the users do
not want use any interrupt, a software
utility is used to disable the interrupt so
that the PCI plug & play BIOS won't
assign any interrupt vector for this card. |
