PCI
Bus Plug and Play
|
|
The
PCI-9812/10 uses PCI controller ASIC to interface
with the PCI bus. The ASIC fully implement the PCI
local bus specification Rev 2.1. All bus relative
configurations, such as base memory address and
interrupt assignment, are automatically
con-trolled by hardware and PCI BIOS. It does not
need user interaction and pre-study for PC
configurations. This reduces the burden of
searching for conflict-free configurations.

Data Transfer (Bus-mastering)
|
|
For
high speed data acquisition application, the
Bus-mastering DMA (Direct Memory Access) is
necessary. The bus mastering DMA is different from
the traditional DMA on ISA bus. The bus mastering
controller is on the PCI controller that controls
the PCI bus as it become the master of the bus.
The bus mastering DMA can reduce the using of
on-board memory and the PCU loading , it directly
transfer data to PC memory therefore increasing
the data transfer rates and fully utilize the
bandwidth of the PCI bus. Once the analog input
operation begins, control returns to your program.
The hardware temporarily stores the acquired data
in the on-board FIFO and then transfers the data
to a user-defined buffer in the host memory.

Signal Conditioning
|
|
To
control the A/D signal sources, the signal type
and range should be considered. The A/D acceptable
signal type of PCI-9812/10 is single ended and
bipolar, The available signal input ranges for
9812/10 are ?5V or ?1V. The input impedance for
the high speed application should also be
considered. The available input impedance values
are 50 Ohm, 1.25 K, 15M ohm.

A/D
Conversion Modes
|
|
The
conversion mode determines the timing of
conversions. There are three sources for A/D
conversion timing: internal pacer clock, the
external sine wave clock and external square
clock. An on-board timer is used for generate the
internal A/D pacer clock. The frequency of the
pacer is software programmable. The maximum pacer
signal rate is 20MHz. While using an external
pacer clock, the rising edge of external signal
starts an A/D conversion. The conversion rate
under this mode is more flexible than the previous
mode because the users can handle the external
signal with outside device.

A/D
Trigger Modes
|
|
The
PCI-9812/10 provides versatile trigger modes,
include-ing internal trigger, external
positive-edge trigger and negative-edge trigger.
User can use the signals on any analog input
channel as the external trigger signal. The
post-trigger, pre-trigger, middle trigger and the
delay trigger can be implement by combining the
software and hardware technics.
|
| Applications |
| Now,
the PCI-9812/9810 has been used on many
applications, such as image digitizing for medical
applications, vibration testing equipments, video
capture analyzers, and IF or baseband signal
digitization. This card provides the best
performance/cost ratio in the world. The high
speed nature and the simple use of this card makes
it can be fit into many applications. |

| (Note
1) :
For
single channel enabled, the maximum sampling rate
is 20 MHz. For two channels enabled, the 20 MHz
sampling rate can be reached only when the number
of samples accessed for each channel is smaller
than 16K. For four channels enabled, the 20 MHz
sampling rate can be reached only when the number
of samples accessed for each channel is smaller
than 8K. |
