FLASH STORAGE DEVICES

DOC vs. DOM:  DOC is a proprietary design by M-Systems.  The motherboard or SBC needs to have a special circuit (connector) designed to support DOC. Because of the proprietary design, DOC is expensive versus other storage media.  DOM uses the IDE interface and it can be used by all motherboards and SBCs with an IDE interface. DOM is getting popular since it can be procured from a variety of suppliers and therefore less expensive than DOC.

CFC/PCMCIA Flash Card:  A motherboard or SBC needs to have a Compact Flash Socket or PCMCIA Socket to support CFC or PCMCIA Flash Card.  Using these media allows one to swap from one machine to another.  Also allows portability, able to move card from one machine to another, making upgrades much quicker and easier.  CFC is an alternative to DOC and DOM.
